Community Services Unit

The Town of Elizabeth Police Department's Community Services Unit (CSU) consists of specially trained, non-sworn personnel to perform several duties around the Town of Elizabeth that do not require a sworn Police Officer.

Community Services Officers (CSO's): The Elizabeth Police Department's Community Services Officers are non-sworn officials that have specified enforcement abilities. They perform a wide variety of duties and assignments in support of the Patrol Division such as:

• Response to animal-related calls for service, such as aggressive animals, dogs at large, or animal cruelty.
• Enforcement of certain Town of Elizabeth Municipal Code-related violations, such as litter, abandoned vehicles, and zoning violations.
• Traffic control.
• Supporting the Patrol Division on certain calls for service.

Objectives and Goals:

• Educate the public about the Town of Elizabeth's codes and ordinances and to obtain voluntary compliance.
• Strive to perform duties in a fair, professional, and courteous manner.
• Protect the health, safety, and welfare of all property owners, residents, businesses, and visitors.
• Help develop and establish standards and ordinances that ensure positive effects on property value, community appearance, and neighborhood pride.
• Partner with other agencies to reach common goals.
• Establish and maintain a proactive environment to help solve community issues and stay at the forefront of creative and effective code enforcement.
