The Community Development Department is responsible for providing planning services to the community. Services include short and long range planning, zoning, building, economic development, and historic preservation.

The Community Development Department completed it's second year of participating in the Elizabeth High School internship program giving students an opportunity to gain knowledge and experience. Interns learn about current projects, assist the department digitizing data to improve efficiency as well as complete a student body survey that provides data for use by Planning staff. Results of the 2023 survey are below.
