Mayor's Statement - Colorado Stay at Home Order

March 26, 2020

As many of you know, last night Governor Polis issued a stay at home order for Colorado that took effect today and extends through April 11th.  This order is intended to save lives and will help minimize contact between citizens in order to minimize the exposure of the virus to the public.  We encourage everyone to take this order seriously for the safety and benefit of our entire community.

I know this crisis is impacting so many lives and businesses here in Elizabeth.  The Town will continue to provide and maintain operations within the scope of this order.  We will continue to push out information to the community and work closely with our area agencies.  Please make sure to check the Town’s website for updates.

I know that this is a scary and uncertain time for all of us.  I hope we all can continue to come together, as we always have, and help those who are in need and most vulnerable in times like this.  I encourage all of you to take this time and make new memories with your loved ones.  Spend time outside and enjoy the beauty and peace of Elizabeth.   We will get through this with grace and we will come out stronger.  Please be safe and stay well!

Mayor's Statement - COVID-19

March 18, 2020

This crisis has impacted everyone in so many ways.  The Town is making changes to the way that operations are conducted in response to this pandemic, and we are striving to maintain operations and work with our citizens and business owners during this difficult time.  The health, safety, and welfare of our residents is and will remain the top priority.

Yesterday, the Town of Elizabeth declared an emergency declaration, following the emergency declarations issued by Elbert County and the State of Colorado.  Our hope is that the issuance of these declarations will allow us access to supplies and funding from the state and federal governments.  Please rest assured that the Town and all local agencies are working together closely to coordinate planning and response efforts.

The Town is also paying special attention to those most vulnerable in our community, including children and seniors.   We are working with our area agencies, both county and state level, on how to provide services to our senior community.  We are also in close contact with the Elizabeth School District.  We will continue to push information out as it’s received.

We have not forgotten about our businesses that are the lifeblood of our community.  We know how much businesses are suffering, and we will continue to work with the Small Business Association, Colorado Department of Local Affairs, and other state and area partners to advocate for our businesses and push for further resources and support.  We have partnered with the Director of Elizabeth Chamber to compile a list of our businesses and their hour operations, during this difficult time.  The link can be found on our website or the Chamber’s website.

The Town has cancelled all in-person meetings and will be holding electronic Board of Trustees meetings to handle urgent business.  I want to emphasize that business that is not urgent will be postponed until we are once again able to hold in-person meetings. Any electronic meetings that we have will be open to the public to listen and participate.

The Town has created a webpage to keep residents informed throughout this crisis.  The link is located at the bottom of this statement along with the Town’s Facebook page.  We encourage residents to reach out at any time to the Board of Trustees and Staff.

We know that all your lives have greatly changed.  Please continue to adhere to the public health guidelines that state, local, and federal officials release.  Remember, the goal is to slow the spread of the virus.  We are in this together.  May great health be with you and your families!
