Packages at Door

Be on the lookout!

The holiday season is in full swing, and packages will be arriving at your homes.  Often, packages are delivered to the front porch, an open invitation for porch pirates.  Porch pirates will also follow delivery trucks watching where packages are delivered.  Not to draw suspicion, they will continue to follow the delivery truck noting where packages are dropped off.  Only to come back a while later to steal what has been delivered.  Social media sites indicate suspected porch pirates have been seen in Elizabeth.

Porch pirates may work alone, but often work as an organized group. Do not confront potential porch pirates. If you suspect porch pirates are in your neighborhood, call 911 immediately.  The Elizabeth Police Department will respond and investigate.

There are a few ways to help prevent the Grinch from stealing Christmas. When ordering packages, and the option is available, provide special directions to the delivery company where to place packages out of sight.  If you are receiving a package and are unavailable to get your delivery immediately, ask a trusted neighbor to pick up your delivery.

The Elizabeth Police Department wishes you and your families a happy and safe holiday season.
